Tour 1
North Stradbroke Island and Consolidated Rutile Limited –
Thursday 11th September

This tour visits North Stradbroke Island which features world class beaches, famous for fishing and surfing, watch humpback whales on their Northern migration, scuba dive nearby rocky reefs or simply soak up the laid back island lifestyle. And, the CRL (Consolidated Rutile Limited) Mine and Regeneration site. The island’s most significant industry, sand mining, emerged in the late 1940’s. Since then approximately 15 percent of the island has been mined and revegetated by four different companies.

Brief itinerary

7.00 am – Depart Sofitel Hotel Brisbane
8.45 am – Dunwich Ferry Terminal for North Stradbroke Island
10.00 am – Group 1: Mine and Regeneration site tour of CRL
Group 2: Point Lookout and sightseeing
11.45 am – Group 2: Lunch at Stradbroke Island, Beach Hotel
12.30 pm – Group 1: Lunch at Stradbroke Island, Beach Hotel
1.00 pm – Group 2: Mine and Regeneration site tour of CRL
1.30 pm – Group 1: Point Lookout and sightseeing
4.15 pm – Return to Dunwich Ferry Terminal for return to Brisbane
6.45 pm – Return to Sofitel Hotel Brisbane

You must bring: Sunscreen, hat, water bottle and sunglasses (to keep the sand from your eyes). CRL requires that you must wear fully enclosed shoes. Please note we will be walking over sand dunes and inspecting regeneration sites.

CRL Notes: CRL requires people on their mining leases to undergo random drug and alcohol testing (by urine sample) if they are present when testing is conducted. Note that CRL requires a 0.000 blood alcohol content for everyone who enters the mine site. CRL must also be informed of relevant medical conditions group members have (ie. asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, allergies).

Minimum: 30, minimum number must be reached for the tour to proceed.
Maximum: 60
Cost: A$66.00 per person (incl. GST), includes transfers to and from Sofitel Hotel Brisbane. Lunch and refreshments at delegates’ own expense.
